Generating your authentication keys

You can manage your authentication keys by going to the Do It Now menu and selecting Generate an authentication key.

There are two keys.

  1. Authentication Key ID | This is your unique identifier to verify that you are a BusinessData customer. This will not change.
  2. Secret Authentication Key | This is used to create your digital signature.

Note | Your Secret Authentication Key is a secret and should only be known by you and BusinessData. You should never email your Secret Authentication Key to anyone. It is important to keep your Secret Authentication Key confidential to protect your account.

It is accepted as good practice to generate a new Secret Authentication Key at periodic times to ensure the safety of your BusinessData account.

If you feel that your Secret Authentication Key has been compromised, you can immediately generate a new Secret Authentication Key.

  • To do this, go to the Do It Now menu and select Generate an Authentication Key. Once on the screen, select the button Generate New Secret Key to generate your new Secret Authentication Key.

This will automatically make your previous Secret Authentication Key obsolete and you will no longer be able to use that key in subsequent BusinessData transactions. If you do, those transactions will be rejected.
