How we process company removals
Public notice of intention to remove the company
The Registrar must give public notice of the intention to remove your company (deregistration).
These advertisements are placed in the New Zealand Gazette and the 'Public notices' section of the Companies Office website every two weeks. We will also send a letter to the company confirming the date the Registrar intends to give public notice of his intention to remove the company.
Note | The Companies Office pays the advertising costs for placing the notice for the company in the New Zealand Gazette.
Wait 20 working days for any objections
Once the public notice of intention to remove the company has been advertised, the public have 20 working days to object to the removal of the company. If there are no objections received within that 20 working days then the company will be removed from the register.
Who can object to the removal?
Any person may object to the removal of a company from the New Zealand Register of Companies (the Register) as long as it is no later than the date specified in the public notice.
Company is removed from the register
When a company is removed from the register it is referred to as 'struck off'. The public details about that company will remain visible on the register, but the current status of the company will show as 'struck off'.
