The process outlined below describes how to reserve names for:
- New Zealand companies
- Limited liability, Unlimited liability and Cooperative companies.
- Overseas companies
- Australian overseas companies and other overseas companies.
How to reserve a company name
Apply for your name online - it only costs NZ$10.22.
- To reserve a company name online you must be logged on to the Companies Office website as a registered user.
- You will need to select the Entity Type (for example - NZ Limited Company, Overseas ASIC company).
- You will also need to enter the proposed company name that you would like to reserve. It is important to note that the Companies Act 1993 requires that the last word in the company name is either Limited or Tapui (Limited).
- You can use the Auto Check button before you submit your application - this should not replace the recommended thorough pre-application check.
- You may also upload a document to support your application (for example, if you have written approval to use a restricted word).
- If the company name you apply for is rejected and you decide to apply for another name you will need to pay another application fee.
