Business assessment

If you own or manage a small-to-medium-sized business, the assessment is the start of a journey to improve your capability and build the bottom line.

As a business owner, you are the person who initially creates a business profile on NZ Business Assessment. (If there are two or more people that own the business, create one business profile then grant the other owner(s) access by 'adding them as associates' using their email address.)

Once registered, you can also add 'advisers' - people you trust to provide their professional opinion - giving them access to view your business profile and assessment results to help provide you with the direction you need. An adviser could be a business mentor, an accountant, a lawyer, an economic development agency, your local chamber of commerce or a training provider.

Once registered, you can:

1. Create a business profile for one or more businesses.
This is a quick and easy process to complete, covering a few key basic pieces of information about your business, which you can update as required and will be viewable by any associates or advisers whom you grant access to.

2. Grant other users with access to any of your businesses.
Once you have created a business profile, the platform makes it simple for you to share your information online with the people who you trust, to provide their professional opinion. If you have more than one business, users will have access only to the business you have granted them access to.

You can grant users with access as 'an associate' (for example, another owner in the business, or a key staff member); or as 'an adviser' (for example a business mentor, a business consultant, or your accountant).

3. Assess your business(es) by completing the core capability questionnaire.
The 'core capability questionnaire' asks a series of questions about your business - ranging from general products and services information, to financial and corporate organisational data. To gain the greatest value from the assessment, it is suggested that you have a copy of your business plan (if you have one) and your financial results for the last 2 years handy as you work through the questionnaire.

The core capability questionnaire will help you understand your business and allow you to seek the direction you need to improve your capability and achieve success faster.

Moving forward, the assessment will help you:

Measure growth performance
from an established starting point.

Spend less time
providing information to multiple agencies, by giving them access to view your business information.

Create a CV for your business
that is stored in one place and can be easily accessed by you, or your advisers, and updated accordingly.

Store comprehensive opportunity plans
for growth, which can be compiled and stored online as a useful record, along with any other relevant business documents.

The assessment platform makes it easy for you to work with a trusted adviser to identify areas for improvement, spot opportunities for growth and develop a pathway forward.
