Help for new employees

We offer free services to support your new staff.

In Work Support

Helps resolve issues your new employee may have, such as the challenges of starting a new job

Straight to Work

Training courses developed for industry to help meet skill shortages or labour demands.

Help for employees with a disability

You may qualify for a subsidy or grant if you employ a person with a disability or have one already working with you.

Mainstream Employment Programme

Provides a package of subsidies, training, and other support to help people with significant disabilities get work in the State sector

Modification Grant

Helps pay for workplace changes or equipment that makes it easier for someone with a disability to get or stay in work.

In Work Support

 Work and Income offers In Work Support to help employees with some of the challenges of starting a new job and support employers. It aims to help a person stay in work longer.

Who can get it

To be able to get In Work Support an employee needs to:
  • be registered with Work and Income  
  • have been or be at risk of becoming unemployed for 26 weeks or more 
  • meet Ministerial eligibility criteria (talk to Work and Income about this)  
  • have started work in the last four weeks in a job that is likely to be permanent.

For employers

Work and Income offers In Work Support to help you with any issues that may arise when you take on a new employee.

They may be able to help you with:

  • conflict resolution
  • advice about the services available through other agencies such as the  Department of Labour or  Inland Revenue
  • ongoing support and advice from Work and Income.
