CIPS study - tell me more
The Academy helps practitioners with at least 2-3 years’ experience gain CIPS qualifications
The NZ Procurement Academy supports public sector employees with a minimum 2-3 years’ procurement experience towards gaining internationally recognised CIPS qualifications:
- Foundation Diploma in Purchasing & Supply (Level 4)
- Advanced Diploma in Purchasing & Supply (Level 5)
- Graduate Diploma in Purchasing & Supply (Level 6)
Level 6 is equivalent to Level 7 on the NZ Qualifications Framework (batchelors degrees, diplomas, certificates).
The Academy also assists practitioners to apply for Membership of CIPS (MCIPS).
Each qualification level consists of five units (subjects)
To achieve one level of CIPS, you must have passed examinations in (or been exempted from) a total of five units (subjects).
Each unit involves at least 60 to 120 hours of self-study and group work
Each unit is structured in approximately twenty study sessions with supporting guides/material, recommended reading and online tutoring and forums. Expect to invest at least 60 hours per unit. Your study will be based around study guides (published by CIPS), supplemented by online material, tutoring, facilitated workshops and study groups. For more information, see So you’re thinking of studying for CIPS qualifications… [344 kB PDF].
Academy workshops and study groups
The standard CIPS programme is supplemented with additional facilitated workshops. These encourage peer learning through the discussion of case studies, mock exam questions and open discussion. Workshop details are published on the calendar. Study groups, organised on an informal basis by students themselves, are also established.
Examinations
Worldwide, CIPS exams are held during the third week of May and November, with a limited number of subjects (units) offered in July. Check out the calendar or visit the CIPSA website for dates and exam locations (currently Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, New Plymouth and Dunedin).
Enrolment
Keep an eye on the calendar for the next enrolment intake.
