MCIPS - what's involved
How to attain the MCIPS qualification
MCIPS is the pinnacle of CIPS qualifications. It stands for full Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply and confers the post nominal MCIPS. Full members are recognised internationally for achieving the highest recognised global standard of excellence in procurement. There are currently over 26,000 individuals worldwide with full MCIPS and many more working towards it.
To attain the MCIPS qualification, applicants need to meet the requirements to pass Level 6 and have a minimum of three years’ procurement experience. Accreditation pathways that recognise relevant experience and existing qualifications are also available to gain credits towards CIPS qualifications. These are explained in more detail in the Study and Qualify section of the CIPSA website.

NZ Procurement Academy / CIPS Pathfinder Assessment
Selection is in two stages; firstly an initial assessment by MED of an applicant’s CV, application form and Manager’s endorsement to ensure that applicants meet the eligibility criteria. Successful applications are passed to CIPS Australasia (CIPSA) to conduct the Pathfinder Assessment.
The Pathfinder consists of CIPSA reviewing the applicant’s CV to gauge the depth of work experience and academic achievement followed by a face to face or telephone conversation to discuss these. Through this you will understand the distance you need to cover to achieve Level 6 and the best pathway to reach this, including which units (subjects) you need to study and sit exams for, and where you might be able to seek exemptions.
