All-of-Government Building Materials Services category – discussion document published

22 October 2013 - As part of the New Zealand Government Procurement Reform programme, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is looking at the feasibility of an all-of-government solution for building materials.

Building materials typically account for between 30-60% of construction project costs. Due in large part to the Canterbury rebuild, forecasted spend by government agencies on building materials is expected to be $3.3 billion per annum over the next 5-8 years.

We believe there is much to be gained - for all parties - from taking a more collaborative, co-ordinated and strategic approach to how the government purchases building materials.

To maximise construction industry input into any AoG solution, a Building Materials Discussion Document has been released on the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS).
