Hazard Handler
Health and safety law applies to nearly all places of work in New Zealand – including all businesses, no matter how large or small. The law has one fundamental aim – to prevent harm to anyone in a place of work.
If you want to improve health and safety in your workplace, hazard management is a great place to start. The benefits include a safer and healthier workplace, improved productivity, and less time lost due to injury or illness. It is an ongoing process and hazards in your workplace need regular review. A Hazard Register is a foundation for you to identify, record and review the hazard management in your workplace.
You can use the Hazard Handler to assess your workplace for hazards and get an introduction to the basics of managing health and safety.
About this tool
The Hazard Handler is a free resource that provides small businesses with guidance on:

The Hazard Handler is designed to help small businesses kick-start their hazard management system. It provides practical information about how to identify and handle both generic and industry specific health and safety issues. It also has references to further resources you can explore.
Completing the hazard register templates does not guarantee compliance with the Health & Safety in Employment Act 1992. However, it provides you with the first steps towards managing health and safety within your workplace.
Below is a list of templates, select the one that matches the industry you work in. Please ensure you save the template to your computer before starting to prevent the loss of your work. Once you have saved the templates on your computer you will be able to finish it in your own time, it should take around 60 minutes to complete.
