  • Workplaces must display QR tracing codes, as must public transport, but other vehicles are not required to do this.
  • In general, workers do not need to scan QR codes if it is their usual place of work. However, all other persons on the premises are encouraged to scan or use alternative record keeping.
  • My Vaccine Pass can’t be required for people accessing public transport. However, air travel and Cook Strait Ferries may have My Vaccine Pass or testing requirements for customers.
  • If a worker needs to, as part of their work, access a site that undertakes food and drink services, close proximity services, events, or entertainment, recreation and exercise services as part of their work (eg delivering produce to or repairing plumbing at a restaurant), then they must follow the rules for this activity. This includes a requirement to be vaccinated. For more information, see:

Transport sector (including public and private transport and passenger services)
  • Businesses can operate.
  • Workplaces can open, working from home may be appropriate for some staff.
  • Face coverings are required on domestic air and public transport; and arrival and departure points. This excludes when passengers are in their allocated carriage on a specified Kiwirail service or when on a ship that does not have an enclosed space for passengers.
Freight sector (including couriers and parcel services)
  • Businesses can operate.
  • Workplaces can open, working from home may be appropriate for some staff.
  • Face coverings are encouraged.
Transport and delivery of goods, eg a business delivering their own product)
  • Businesses can operate.
  • Workplaces can open, working from home may be appropriate for some staff.
  • Face coverings are encouraged.
Utilities (including production, supply, sale, distribution or disposal of electricity, water, gas, wastewater, telecommunications services, waste (including rubbish disposal and recycling))
  • Workplaces can open (including any in-home services), working from home may be appropriate for some staff.
  • Any retail services may open with capacity limits based on 1 metre distancing (not including workers).
  • Face coverings encouraged in the workplace and required for retail (unless an individual is exempt from face covering requirements).
  • In-home services must keep contact records for their workers.
Building, construction and maintenance services
  • Workplaces can open (including any in-home services), working from home may be appropriate for some staff.
  • Face coverings encouraged in the workplace
  • In-home services must keep contact records for their workers.
