Waste audit helps beachfront holiday park identify new initiatives to explore.
Situated on the cusp of Fitzroy beach, the Coastal Walkway and New Plymouth town, the Fitzroy Beach Holiday Park offers the perfect gateway into Taranaki. It comes as no surprise that caring for the surrounding land and community is a natural priority.
Through initial carbon measurements, the team identified waste as one of its key hotspots. This was also an area of concern in guest feedback, highlighting an opportunity to engage customers in their sustainability journey.
To gain a better understanding of waste volumes and compositions, the park completed a full waste audit. They now have a clear idea of new initiatives they can implement to minimise waste, reduce costs and educate guests in the process.
“Through our waste audit, we discovered that 40% of our current landfill waste is potentially recoverable, either to recycling or compost,” says Jenn O’Connell, Park Manager. “This was an important step that has given us some really good information and options to explore.”
