What this funding is for
The Primary Sector Growth Fund supports projects that drive growth, productivity and value in New Zealand's primary sector.
Funding can support:
- new products, technologies or services
- new ways of producing, processing or distributing goods
- projects that improve efficiency, reduce costs or increase returns
Your projects must deliver clear economic benefits to New Zealand and be more than business-as-usual activities.
Funding is designed to help you overcome barriers to growth and expand into new opportunities.

- Minimum $250,000 government investment. No maximum funding amount applies
- Co-funding
- Yes, MPI can fund up to 40% of project costs. You must provide at least 60% co-investment, which can include some in-kind contributions
- How it's allocated
- Funding is available throughout the year for eligible businesses
- Availability
- Applications start with an expression of interest. If your expression is approved, you may then be invited to submit a full application
- Application effort
- Light effort, less than four hours, for an expression of interest. Significant effort, several days to several weeks, for a full application if invited
Who this funding is for
This fund is for businesses, industry groups, Māori organisations and other organisations working in New Zealand's food and fibre sector.
It's best suited to businesses with projects that can benefit the wider sector, not just their own business. You'll need to show how your project could create value for New Zealand's primary industries and demonstrate support from others in the sector.

What to know before you apply
This fund is not for:
- business-as-usual activities
- export-only projects
- projects focused mainly on research
- commercial production activities
