Supporting employees

Helping employees quit smoking doesn’t require big budgets or complex programmes – just a small weekly time commitment.

The payoff is significant:

  • healthier employees with improved wellbeing
  • fewer sick days, reducing disruption and costs
  • higher productivity and focus across your team.

Free workplace support to quit smoking is available

Free workplace quit smoking programmes are available nationwide.

Hundreds of employers across the country have already started to partner with stop smoking services to help their staff become smokefree.

By providing a supportive environment, workplaces can significantly increase the chances of employees quitting smoking for good.

Help and resources for you

Health New Zealand has published a Smokefree Workplaces Toolkit for businesses to connect with stop smoking services and access a range of practical resources that can be used in a workplace.

The toolkit, developed with input from businesses and stop smoking services, includes:

  • links to sign up for workplace stop smoking support
  • stories from employers who have successfully supported staff to quit
  • resources such as posters and signage
  • policy templates and practical advice.
