New Zealanders can now build granny flats in their backyards without the need for a building consent.
The granny flats exemption allows certain small, standalone dwellings to be built without a building consent, provided all conditions are met and licensed building professionals are used.
To help you understand more about the exemption, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment's Building Performance team is hosting a webinar.
They’ll give an overview of the exemption, discuss common questions, and offer guidance to help you make informed decisions.
