Find emergency updates and guidance
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) helps New Zealanders respond to and recover from national emergencies. Check their website for the latest official information and to find out more about your local Civil Defence Group.
When to contact Inland Revenue
If you've been affected by the severe weather conditions in January 2026, focus on recovering from these first. When you can, contact Inland Revenue to talk about your situation and check what support is available. This could include help with personal tax, KiwiSaver and student loan payments, or business tax.
Look after your employees
Employment New Zealand have helpful information on looking after employees before and after disasters. If it’s not safe for your employees to work, don’t ask them to do so. You may also need to be flexible with your leave policy.
