Benefits of a health and wellbeing policy
Your most important asset is your people (he tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata), so make sure you prioritise their health and wellbeing.
Benefits of creating a work environment that considers employees' physical and mental wellbeing are:
- lower absenteeism
- fewer injuries
- higher productivity and customer satisfaction
- your company is more appealing to people looking for work
- employees are less likely to quit.
Things to consider
When you’re creating your health and wellbeing policy, think about:
- how the work environment might affect employees’ health and wellbeing
- what health and wellbeing issues employees might bring to work – for example, mental health issues, stress, smoking, sun exposure or alcohol-related challenges.
Ask your employees what they would like to see included in the policy to ensure it meets their needs. Make sure your policy can apply to everyone who comes into your workplace – contractors, fixed-term employees, temps and visitors.
